Because Lane was so popular, many people requested souvenirs of and from him.
After Lane's death, the family no longer wished to sell the souvenirs and mementos.
But Lane's sister Robin explains:
"It is only because of demand that we have anything, not that we are trying to profit from his death.
We have stopped making things time and time again but people kept asking for more."
